so here's one of teh few things i've done for DC DIRECT, its a figure of batman in a metal armor from a book i did back in 2005 i think. issue # 630.

a year later, i did turnarounds for it. then we were fortunate enough to get Jonathan Matthews [link] to sculpt it ( he sculpted some of the best DC has, one being the batman b&w statue by Mignola!)

then finally, prototypes back from overseas. the mask comes off and all! it even comes with TWO masks, one is scractched up like in the book. how freakin cool is that?

should be available this summer thru DC DIRECT!

pretty amazing!
it sure looks impressive how the drawing evolved into the final product!

Y'know, after almost 2 decades of watching Kenner, Hasbro and Mattel release goofy Batman variations in all kinds of nosensical armor... I would still buy this without hesitation.

thanks! it's actually out in stores now, but mostly just specialty shops and sites.

You know, I saw a solicitation for that armored figure a long time ago, and remember thinking how cool it looks, having no idea where it came from. Then I saw another ad for it recently and thought, "Ya know, I'm definitely gonna get that figure just because the design is cool and different." I don't buy figures very often anymore, (I'm running outta space. ;)) and the only one I got recently was the "New Frontier: Batman".

Then I stumble across your gallery today and see this! It's set in concrete now that I'm gonna buy this figure when I see it because I really enjoy your artwork. :salute: Say, the prototype is black n gray, yet the pic of the figure is the classic blue n gray... what color was it in the book?

Seriously though, having an action figure of your own design and artwork..... how friggin' awesome of a feeling is that?! You created something in your head and now it's a physical, three-dimensional thing in your hand!

thanks man, hope you dig the figure once you get it. in the books, it was blue, but the mfg people overseas sent us a few sample variants, the one here is gray which i really like. but the final is in a dark metallic blue which was unexpected, but WAY freaking awesome. i really love it. the best part is that the articulation points are very non traditional, so he can pose in some very cool shots. its heavy as hell too, so very solid.

Looks really great. What sort of materials did Mathews use to sculpt it and make it into an action figure? I've been interested in this kind of thing for a while and was thinking about doing some of my own sculpts.
