1)mostly because there are some things you just cant do with a pencil. for those scenes, i go straight in with brush and no pencil to get more of a looser unplanned feel.
if i want a spatter effect somewhere with all it's little nuances, it's easier( and more time efficient) for us both if i just do it myself rather than try to speck it out in pencil then have Derek have to literally trace it- or even have him try to second guess my first instinct. i thnk the page should be a collaboration of us both and not just Derek tracing everything.
2)some inkers i think see it as a " you dont trust me enough to do it issue" when it is has nothing to do with it. It's more about both artists on the book working towards the same goal(the final product, on time)and less about ego.
