aside from the film just being amazing, one thing i really enjoyed about the cinematography was the use of the very limited palette of blues/grays/browns in all the current situation scenes. with the flashbacks in very vibrant warm colors to contrast better times.
anyway, blahblahblah- here's me trying out that cooler palette on this very small paper- 5x11 watercolor on 300lb softpress

again, an amazing piece of work, and aside from it being obviously depressing- it's actually holds very optimistic values. also, it reminded me much of Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies ( in some parts).
