it turned out to be shit load of fun, and people who knew where i was going with it liked it. people who didn't take it serious loved it, costumes didn't have to make sense, proportions didn't have to make sense, the who and why and what is still alive or dead didint matter, people who didn't see their favorite character on it complained. and my editors at DC thought it was a fun thing to put on xmas cards for them but nothing more.
really though- WHO DOESNT draw this superdeformed chibi bs for fun? 9 out of 10 deviants here do it on the side for fun ( and they all are amazing i might add! okay, not all. but the majority)
but then, i kept doing it, made prints of it, SENT POSTERS of it to almost everyone at the DC office of it- taking my chances, walking the line of it to see how far i could push it. doing the inside attack- right?
eventually, my editors saw how much i enjoyed doing this on the side and now giving us a chance. baby steps. and if it gets enough of a positive reaction from readers, fans, viewers, and internally- we WILL be doing more.
Wildcats? batman? Superman Batman? Detective? Streets of Gotham? what? its all about these little things right now.
i am beyond excited. Derek
check out the previews for them here-
October is going to be a great month.
ALSO- a quick shout out to my buddy Peter Nguyen
guys working, we see it every month, some care, soem dont. but i still remember the first time i saw my name show up in Previews Magazine. it was the most amazing thing i've ever seen done with a 6pt arial font on tabloid stock. it made me feel like i had something to look forward to drawing, and it made me want to only get better at it. it would also be the last time i'd see my name printed with nothing negative tagged on to it! 'tis a glorious time.
and finally- i had to drop the info again on Long Beach Comic- Con-
the programming is up, check it out here-

On Saturday, i will be at the 4:00-4:45 Drawing Comics, Presented by Aspen Comics.
Talk with working comic pros about the craft and business of
drawing comics. All-star panel includes Dustin Nguyen, Mike
Choi, Joe Benitez, Ale Garza, and Philip Tan.
I WILL NOT BE at the 2:00-2:45 Art Techniques Panel on Sunday. It was listed by mistake and i just wanted to clear that out before hand so that my 2 friends, and 3 family members who make up my fan base do not go there by mistake.

Hooray!
And the idea of chibi Zealot and Grifter is ..... It makes me chuckle envisioning it.
Damnit.
Oh, and yeah, seriously, Nguyen is like Smith. At some high schools here, the "Nguyen" part of the graduation take like an hour to get through. I can ONLY imagine how many Nguyens there are in Orange County.
HOLY CRAP. Google Chrome corrected "nguyen" into "Nguyen". We're taking over, dude. Pho Sho.
