Opinions are a Dangerous thing: Art StylesThis isn't about narking on anyone no, infact this is just my own muses really! You could say this is a journal for ENCOURAGEMENT! *SHINES*
I find sticking to one style restrictive if you are a beginning/moderate artist! (even professionals I might say! though I can't speak for everyone)
Having a distinctive look on how your art is done and produced is understandable and its a desire to appear unique to the point some one can just SEE your work and instantly think 'Oh! that's Ten-days!' or something along the line. However, when you are trying to find who you are and what kind of art you are to produce, I recommend trying, well, a lot of different things! Different styles, mixing styles, different colouring techinque, brushes, tools, shading. Don't feel dependant on what you are already doing and don't feel pressured by people just for trying new things!
Push out of your comfort zone. Can't draw hands? don't avoid it! draw the heck out of them! (how else are you going to learn?)

Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Nintendo STEALS Money!Since this has been going around lately, I should probably give my two cents. Basically what it amounts to is that Nintendo has filed Content ID info of their games with YouTube. What this means is that if you upload gameplay video of a Nintendo game, YouTube will automatically monetize that video, put ads on it, a link to where to buy the game, and take the money generated from that video and give it directly to Nintendo. People who do "let's play" videos are, naturally, pissed off because they want to be earning money off their videos, so they're calling Nintendo "thieves" for doing this.
I can see both sides to the story. I can see Nintendo as a corporation wanting to exercise control over their properties. On the other hand, "let's play" videos can often help new gamers find games they otherwise wouldn't have tried.
But here's the thing: Nintendo isn't the first company do this. Both Microsoft and Ubisoft do it already. YouTube has also had a long history of having music videos and

On TES elvesAlright can I just say how much I love the elves in the Elder Scrolls
J.R.R. Tolkien popularized elves as these otherworldly, divinely beautiful creatures which sorta established the standard for the race in all modern fantasy that came after. They're nearly immortal, distant, and to me, plain boring. Then around comes Morrowind, the game that really made me fall in love with TES, its world and its lore!! The elves of TES have a long history, and each subrace has their own cultural identity. The elves no longer just sit in their Crystal ivory towers (well I guess some of them do) and sing to their trees or whatever - they're flawed, complicated PEOPLE, and extremely proud of who they are. The haughty Altmer, the hostile Dunmer from the Ashlands, the cannibalistic Bosmer, the late Dwemer and their scientific achievements…. when was the last time any elves modeled after Tolkien's work had this much cultural diversity??

i havent made a real journal entry in forever it feels like. mostly because i've been busy with work and life, so busy that honestly, i havent read comics in almost a year now.

BUT- recently i picked up Sean Murphy's

Punk Rock Jesus [link] and was blown away and its pulled me back into reading, and not just creating comics (huge difference there). The last time i read a book where i felt the artist was in complete tune with the writing was Blade of The Immortal- Samura is probably my favorite writer/artist and BOTM is pretty much the perfect book in my eyes. And why wouldnt the art be in complete tune with the writing? its the same damn person. Books/people like these inspire- and are why i love comics and remain optimistic about the industry, it is the most complete and perfect way to tell a story, and it can all be done by one person ( well, one very talented and driven person and a small team of production geniuses that get the book marketed, published and on shelves).

anyway, from books like DKR and Blade of the Immortal, to Sweet Tooth and Punk Rock Jesus- here's to writing and drawing your own stuff. More of us that are capable and have the opportunity should be doing it. Not saying it'll be any good, but hey- you never know till you try.

PRJ is what every comic artist/writer should aspire for... it's one of the few books I check out. CREATE! books like PRJ are what stands a chance of breathing life into the comic industry...
